*This is my opening statement much more coming Very Happy may the best person win jenma Wink

    Science is the answer.

Science can be proven, religion cannot. Take the first passage of the bible for example:

In the begining, god created the heavens and the earth...

Alright, how would the person writing this passage know this? I know that god didn't write it himself...plus the Big Bang theory makes alot more sense than that passage above.

People sometimes...fill in areas of the story where they don't understand..take a child in the dark for example...he may see faces, or a monster in the closet because he does not KNOW or UNDERSTAND what is happening/happened. Once his parents come into the room and turn on the lights, he will understand that there is no monster. Just like religion and science.

Science can/has disproved re-occuring themes in the bible such as the theory of Evolution.

    Jenma, i await your response.

=>Robot, please do not reply to this until jenma has replied. Also, do not make a decision until we have argued a little to make it fun Wink

Oooooh! This is so much fun!!! Okay, my particular translation of the Old Testament (notice I capped...I got some respect and manners... Smile ) goes on with Him willing there to be light, firmament, etc. and so on. BBT aside, I think we can all agree...string theory, quarks, and quantum physics withstanding, these constructs are pretty much scientifically confirmed as existing. Which begs the true question of this particular discourse: namely, can science prove the existence of God...or a creator to be more precise. Aaah, NOW you have something meaty to sink your teeth into. So, would it be fair to postulate that the dude, or dudette for that manner...which is another hot topic someone might want to explore later...,employed the scientific method to set down a few facts but had to CYA in an extremely unenlightened era? And remember, they imprisoned Socrates just for asking questions (Cicero, Galileo, Pythagoras, etc. ad nauseum)...so, attributing scientific fact to God probably made some sense, no? So, I argue that science would never have advanced in the first place if God hadn't been introduced to humans, and thus...RELIGION

Sorry gang, I spent yesterday barfing my guts out w/a stomach bug...I know, TMI. Back to the debate: In the 18th century the source of the sun's heat was unknown and today we know it is the result of nuclear fusion...a point for the pocket protector faction, lol! BUT, it also fortifies my argument here: science cannot overcome religion until ALL facts are knowable and accepted as irrefutable...meaning science still gets stymied by phenomena that they categorize as "unexplained" which means that unless and until (providing our species can even exist that long despite ourselves) there will INDEFINITELY remain the category of "unexplained" in science. H umans being what they are, there will, therefore, indefinitely exist the need to apply causal attribution to our experiences...translation: folks will attribute it to some religious belief unless and until science can prove otherwise. As physics and quantum physics have theoretically demonstrated that the universe is infinite, such a feat on the part of science is implausible at the very least...so religion remains. Plus, humans seem to benefit as a species from their need to have faith and belief...if you do your research, most of our laws, social mores, morality, etc. are rooted in these 2 constructs. Okay, your noodles are probably baked enough and I have to feed Kirby his dinner.... Shocked Shocked

    Well heres what i think:

Science disproves relgion, and religon asks questions that science cannot answer. It will be a never-ending paradox (i think that's the right word Very Happy) no one will ever know for sure until we are dead. It will be a mystery until the day that we die what truly is.

    Are we in agreement?
